Members making their own rules?

I'm sure we've all heard of a town that doesn't allow PvP.

My question- Is it okay to jail people for that?

I mean, it is a PvP server.

Inspiron didn't make a rule that lets any player create rules.

The server would be chaos if that happened. I do believe in some self-government, such as discussing new rules to be made. But a random player placing a sign saying, "No PvP here," then expected anyone who PvPs there to be jailed?

Is that right?

If someone says they were killed in a town that doesn't allow PvP, I nicely ask the person that killed to give them their things back. If they say no, I say that It was kinda mean.

But I can't make them return the items.

Well, it IS the town rules and when someone moves into a person's town they are agreeing to abide by those rules right?
Maybe, before moving into a town, people should make a little contract saying: You can't pvp on town lands, etc..... And once they accept that then they must follow through with it and if they don't they get jailed but there has to be proof that they agreed to it, and if they don't agree to it, then tough chops, they can't live in your town.
Just think of this statement:
"Excuse me, SD, ________ pvp'd in my town! Jail him!"
It seems a little silly because this IS a pvp server, and the SD will also reply saying it is a PvP server even if you have the town rules.
So, if there was a contract for entering a town, and proof that the person living in the town is willing to abide by it BUT they break those rules, they should be jailed. It's like not following the rules of the server. You join and agree to the rules when you come in, you break them, you get jailed (etc.)
Also, can't you /invsee the person who took the stuff and give it back to the person who was killed? Or does it not work like that on this server? I've been admin on quite a few servers and I could do that.

Most of these cases are of people who don't live in the town.
You can look into their inventories and that's it.

That's tough. I learned on the server that you are supposed to abide by all town rules, no matter what they might be. So...yeah...

Let's say you're PvPing, and you chase someone into a town. Are you going to go and read the town rules first?

I say that it should NEVER be jailable.

I dunno, I abide by town rules, if someone is killed, I do my best to get ther stuff back for them, and if its a second offender, or above, I jail b/c they should know the rules.
But it kinda depends on who it is, and how it was...

While it may be a PVP server, if you put walls and such around your specific area, then it is deemed your property, and of course, you should be able to create specific rules that you see fit for your property, but as everyone has agreed, it can be left circumstantial sometimes, for example, like someone said, it's not fair if a coward just runs into a PVP free town. You can't do that. So, in my mind, if a town is no PVP, then that means no PvP can be initiated or started inside the walls or area of the town, if done, then the player must give back all items, if they argue, then they will be jailed.

That's what I go by.

Think of it like this. The server is like a federal government. Towns are like state governments. There are specific rules you must obey everywhere no matter what like respecting others, or no tp pvp (federal). Then there are the rules which are like state government, which are things minor like town PvP. Depending on the situation, federal over rules state decisions.
