When I was a teenager, being 18 was a big deal. Being 18 meant you were no longer a child, didn't have to get your parents' permission for everything, and could get a job without limits.
Now, I'm finding more and more annoying restrictions that have nothing to do with the "adult" age of 18.
I can't drink until I'm 21.
I can't be classified as an independent for college without special circumstances until I'm 24.
I can't work certain convenient store jobs until I'm 21.
I can't work as a secret shopper until I'm 21.
I can't go to a casino until I'm 21.
I can't buy a lottery ticket until I'm 21.
I can't play the lotto/gambling machines in random stores until I'm 21.
I can't get a hotel room at certain hotels until I'm 21.
I can't be in a cabin on a cruise ship until I'm 21 or with someone who is 21.
I have to provide certain documents to own a motorcycle until I'm 21.
I can't own a handgun until I'm 21.
I can't hold an elected office in some states until I'm 21.
I can't rent certain cars until I'm 21.
I can't use a debit card to rent a car until I'm 25!
I can't rent certain apartments until I'm 21.
I can't drive a commercial vehicle over state lines until I'm 21.
If driving when you're 16 the other person in the car has to be 21.
WHAT is the floopin' point of becoming an adult at 18??
