Inspired By Boo's/Brooke's story....
#1
Uhm. I don't know if its too good. I know that Brooke's is beyond awesome.

Oh. SOrry for the typos...typed this on my iPad.

The lake seemed to look at me. It was very creepy. I am in my grandparent’s lake house. The house seemed like a twirling mass of sticks and leaves that my grandfather built him. One year when we were about to be hit by a tornado he said, “I will be pasta if this house flies away with me not in it!” so in the end we stayed. But the tornado passed us by. Strange things are always happening to me. Flash floods hit our neighbors with full force and miss us by miles. Stranger things have happened. Once when I was 3 years old my best friend and I were swimming and she started to get tired. Soon she was drowning. But as soon as I swam near to help her she popped up and said,
“What are you all looking at? I am fine!!” Just two years ago the little dipper disappeared. Everyone was talking about it, but me being nine totally ignored the strange newscasts. But I still remember some of them.
“The united states has announced a nation wide panic.” And
“The united nations has declared this worse than a nuclear war.” The next year, people came to our house asking if we had any children under the age of 16. My grandparents hid me and told the people no. Then the people said,
“it says here that you have an 10 year old by the name of Lisa.”
“Oh Lisa, well she died a while ago. In a flash flood you see, it just came by a couple weeks ago, that’s why its not I your records.”
“Oh. We are very sorry for your loss.” They didn’t sound sorry at all.
Then they left. When I came out of my hiding place my grandmother explained that the people needed children to go to school so that they could figure out why the stars are going out. “Okay” I asked her, “You have always wanted me to go to school so why didn’t I go?”
She sadly replied, “We would have never seen you again dearie.”
On my 11th birthday most of the stars are gone and I had gotten a radio and I loved it. I was always on it. One day I was messing around on the channels and I heard a man mumbling something about oil spills.
After that though he started talking about lost children and stuff like that so I listened closer and I heard him, “at least 30 children has evaded capture in the Nebraska area alone and that the should turn themselves in as soon as possible or bad things will happen. For you 30 children that have evaded capture if you are listening, keep up the good work, because we need you to help us, please, please, please, please help us.” I stared.
It had gone from him telling us to turn ourselves in to telling us that we have to run and save the world or something like that. The radio was still on so I listened some more. Halfway though a rant about health care from one of the guests, there was a thump in the background. The rant stopped and I heard him (as in the person who was ranting about health care) go over to host and say, “Leave him alone! We never did any-” THUMP!
I was so scared that I turned off the radio. When I went to sleep that night I dreamed about oil spills and any other bad thing that could happen to anyone, or for that matter anything. When I woke up the next morning my grandmother was shaking me awake.
“Grab what ever you need and then you need to get out of here!! Hurry they are coming and you don’t have much time! Run honey run!”
“But what about you? You have to come too!”
Downstairs my grandfather whispered, “They are coming! Is she out of there yet?”
“No!” I screamed, “I am NOT leaving you!” I lowered my voice; “I have lost too much already”
“Go! We will find you! I promise! Just go!”
“Please don’t make me leave you! Please, please, please come with me. Please.”
Grandma lifted up the rug. “Go” There was something in her voice that made me think that I had to obey. I felt like I had no choice. Then a trapdoor opened.
“What about you? What are you going to do? Are they going to hurt you?”
“Don’t ask questions. Just go. Please”
“But-” I protested. Then we heard a crash downstairs. “Oh god. Oh god no! Don’t make me leave. Please let me stay and help you! Please, please. Anyone who could break down our heavy door could well….” I didn’t want to think about the consequences of leaving my grandparents behind. I tried to say it, but it never came out. My grandparents pushed me and then I fell into darkness. My head hit a wall. Suddenly I felt the need to go to sleep very quickly and right now. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
“And that’s is how I got down here.” I finished my story with a sigh. “And you know what happened after that.” For those of you reading this someday I woke up after falling into the tunnel thing and hit my head. I woke up in the tunnel with 20 or so eyes blinking around me. Hey asked me how I got here and I told them what else was there to do anyway? So yea pretty much. Now we were walking to their safe place. I don’t know how we were walking in the tunnel because if the blueprints to my grandparents house was right, I should have landed in the pantry right when the people were breaking in. when I asked someone where we were she replied, “I really don’t know. I got here a little before you and I don’t understand anything about this place. My parents stayed to fight 'them' off. ” She said that with a certain hate. The word ‘them’ seemed to cause so much pain for her. She continued, “I am so scared that I will never see them again. I am so, so, so, scared about what ‘they’ might do to them”
“want to be friends?” I don’t know why I said it, it just came out.
“Sure what’s your name? Mine is Catherine.” Catherine said. “But you can call me cat for short.”
“Cat is a nice name, mine is Lisa.” I replied.
“Well lets get to work” she sighed. I gave her a questioning look. “When you enter the safe place you have to change. Completely. So ‘they’ never recognize you ever again, your face your hair, every thing. You have to become a new person entirely. It’s like leaving your old life behind. You’ll be the new person till the end of your life or till ‘they’ stop looking for you. Witch ever comes first.” She explained sadly. I had no question in my mind. I didn’t want to live here and I needed to help the kids who had already been taken.
“I need to help the kids who got caught.”
“Help them…” Cat echoed softly. “Help them,” she echoed again louder this time. “How in the world would you do that and why? You could be safe here for the rest of your life. Like forever. Why would you want to leave?” She was so startled. “I thought that you were my friend. Friends don’t leave each other alone.”
“I am your friend” I replied, “That’s why I’m inviting you along for the ride.”
“Wait…what?” She was scared now. I could see it in her eyes. Then she shocked me beyond belief.
“Okay. How do we get out?”
“…” I was stunned. “Um…okay then. But we are not getting out. We have to wait to get things that we will need for our trip.”
“Okay, so what should we do? Until then I mean.” Cat almost screeched. Heads turned and people started looking at us.
“First of all…. shut up!” I stage whispered. “Second of all we need to get into the compound or whatever you want to call it. We will gather the stuff we need then we will sneak out. I bet they don’t care who leaves, only who comes in ‘cause they don’t expect anyone to leave ‘cause it’s such a nice place.”
“Your really, really, really smart….” Cat said wonderingly.
“Huh? Oh yea everyone tells me that.”
“Have you ever gone to school? Is that why you are so smart?” Cat asked.
“No…we I mean my family none of us have ever gone to school…. except my parents. So no. I’ve never gone to school.”
“The way you thi- I mean talk, it reminds me of my mom.” I wondered why she had cut herself off so abruptly but I soon forgot my worries. Maybe I shouldn’t have. She continued, “you know because my parents are teachers.”
"Mine ar- were. My parents were teachers."
"Were"
“Yes.” She had hit a touchy subject. "Don't ask, don't ask, don't ask, and don’t ask!" I silently wished that she wouldn't ask The Question. The One Question I had always hoped that I wouldn't have to answer. But, thankfully she just stopped talking. It was almost as if she could read my mind.
When we got where these people were leading us, my feet hurt and I was dizzy from hunger. Most of the kids seemed to have food in their pockets. I tried borrowing some from someone but they just looked at me and put their food away. Cat didn't have any food either, so we were leaning on each other for support.
