PROMPT #5: ~~~~~~~~~
"Bubblegum Tears"
Flying high, flying long. That's the last thing I remember before I flew straight into the invisible portal I did not know was there.
My name is Tobiette, and I'm a swallow, a pretty one, at that, not intentionally boastful in any manner.

Before flying high, before flying long, I remember what was around me.
Trees, their brown, rumpled bark fitting their trunks like old wrinkled shirts. Comfortable and cozy. From each branch, a web of tiny, thin branches spread out.

Upon the spindly mass of wood, I saw other swallows like me, many of them being my friends. Haile, Challamy, Silvienne, and Kiti were some of the few birds I greeted briefly, while I flew.

A layer of green moss layered the forest floor. It smelled of damp earth and was somewhat relaxing.

Through the forest canopy, thick and fresh, beams of lazy golden sunlight peered through the leaves, in spotlights of warmth.

I didn't see it coming. I never would have.

But as soon as I hit the invisible portal, I felt something die inside me. The one vein that flowed forest life instead of blood died away, in a matter of seconds. Immediately the natural, earthy aroma that ran through me was locked away, never to be experienced by me ever again.

I blinked, but as soon as I saw the black portal I was traveling through, I closed my eyes, waiting for the worst to be over. It felt like I was being sucked of all my old self, and I felt hollow.

When I felt as if the portal had closed behind me, I opened my eyes and inhaled.

What's this? This place felt like home. I ruffled my wings once. What seemed familiar about this?

Of course...it was exactly like home! Everything was the same. A line of birds greeted me chirpily. Something was different about this world, however...

I'm surprised it wasn't the first thing I noticed.

Everything was the same, but DIFFERENT.

Candy!

I felt a squish under my foot. Vanilla ice cream! I expected my foot to freeze, but the sugary substance was not cold. It had the texture and taste (yes, I tasted it) of ice cream, but it was only cold when I slurped it into my mouth to taste it.

Looking around, I saw the big tree in my other universe. It was white and red...what was it? It hit me like a brick. Peppermint! I could smell it from where I stood. It filled the air with its minty, refreshing scent, burning my nose, but in a pleasant, sweet way.

In a daze, I looked around this fanciful identical dimension. There were other swallows, but they were completely pink. Spinning around, it occurred to me that maybe I could still return home. But the portal, no matter how many times I stepped through that space, was not invisible. It wasn't even there. I felt tears pour down my face. They came out pink. Pink?! I guess you cried bubblegum tears here.

The birds lined up to greet me into this welcome pink world. A female swallow looked familiar...she stepped up first.

"Hi! Welcome to The Pink Forest. I'm Eliah. Do I look familiar?" She gave me a warm smile. It hit me. This was Haile! Eliah...Haile...they were the same. So I tentatively called out.
"H-H-Haile?"
She laughed.
"I'm not Haile. I'm Eliah. I'm Haile's Sugar Twin. And you're...?"
"I'm Tobiette."
"Not anymore, you're not...you've been cloned and will now live in the Pink Forest. Your clone will live in the Forest, which was the world you lived in before you went through the portal."
"So now I'm an inhabitant of this...Pink Forest?"
"Yup. And by the way, your new name is Etteibot. It's unique, I like it."
"Etteibot? Why Etteibot?"
She laughed again. "It's your name backwards."

Another moment of revelation hit me.

I looked down at myself, thinking with my brown feathers I would stand out. But shockingly, my body and feathers were a bubblegum pink shade. My feet were a pleasant shade of cotton-candy blue.

And suddenly, I was filled with memories. I knew who this bird was. She wasn't Haile. This was Eliah...and I had known her all my life.

Scared, I asked her. "Why do I suddenly remember you..?"

Seriously, she said, "You're being filled with the memories you've had here. When you move from one portal to the next, you automatically have all the memories you WOULD have had if you lived here your whole life."

This was too confusing. "So my twin, who now lives in the Forest, has all the Forest memories I had?"

Eliah gave a small nod. "So from now on, you'll remember all of us, and we're your friends...because you remember us." She smiled again.

I saw everyone else in a different light. I knew all these birds!

And that hollowness I felt before, I knew what it was. When I went through the portal, I was sucked of everything that defined me as a Forest swallow. So my Forest blood was gone. But I felt full now. I knew it was being replaced by Pink Forest blood. Smacking my lips, they no longer tasted of earth and natural air. They tasted of bubblegum and candy canes.

I smiled and started on my exploration of the Pink Forest. It wasn't really an exploration, considering now I had new memories, so I knew where everything was.

Little by little, every day by day, I feel a memory of the Forest slip away from me. Now, I have almost no memories of it. They have been substituted with Pink Forest recollections, good times I had.

Today I flew again. Just to fly, as recreation. I had just had breakfast with Enneivlis and Itik. Walking down the gingerbread path, I spread my pink wings and took off.

It was quite relaxing, just soaring over the Pink Forest and watching the life in it progress. The Lemonade Falls were looking pure as always, flowing and cascading down the Chocolate Mountains. Lollipop Lane was being swept of leftover candy canes from Eliah's party. Serene and calm, I smiled again, but my smile was soon wiped from my face. I was plunged into an infinite blackness. Something about this feeling felt familiar. I felt a hollowness overtake me, and the Pink Forest blood left my veins. It dawned upon me that I was in another portal. I cried out, missing the Pink Forest already. I closed my eyes, and felt my feet hit solid ground. Peering from one eye, I felt Ocean Blood enter me. Opening my eyes, I saw crystal clear bodies of water and contained water flowing down the streets.

I remembered the drill. New memories overtook me, and I fluffed up my blue and white feathers. I strutted down the streets, feeling a sense of home return.

I wake up sucking in salty water. Yes, water. I live in the sea, where kelp is a tree, and water is air. But I'm not a mermaid or fish. I am a wolf. Of course I am not a regular wolf. I have fins along my back and on my tail and webbed feet. My fur is tinted blue for camouflage. I am sort of a stray though. I used to have a nice mermaid owner. Her hair was dark brown and long, and her tail was a greenish blue. why am I alone now? Because, she left one day, she left without bringing me. She left for a city called "Blue Ocean City". But she did want to bring me. But she couldn't. I cannot understand mermaids so I don't know why she left me behind. But I DO know one thing, we both wanted to see the world above the ocean. We have peeped at the world above. There was sand, and one bad thing. Humans. All creatures in the sea know that humans will catch you, put you in a cage, OR eat you. I will tell you my story: Months after my owner had left, I went on land more and more. Until one day, I was caught. I WAS out in a cage. I would explain more but I want to make this short and sweet. There was a human. It was a girl, I could tell. And she snuck me out, and brought me to her home. She took care of me. She gave me food and nursed me to health when I was sick. One night, she brought me to the beach. I was delighted, until I found out this. she was letting me go. Was she leaving like my previous owner? When I looked back she was already leaving. I let out a small whimper and dove in. But she did visit me at the beach. And I found a new owner, just like her.
