So, I had this dream.

I was on the forums, just chillin like always. I wanted to try posting a new topic, because I haven't started one in a while. And then I came up with this.

Daydream Part One.
I'm in an airport in North Carolina. I'm sitting in a waiting area, a sort of marble lobby where you give your bags to the flight attendant. I'm sitting on this ledge, overlooking a tall water fountain accompanied by marble statues. It's nice here, with a high, arched ceiling, and smooth marble floors.

I'm waiting, and I'm a little impatient because I've been waiting for a long time. I must be waiting for a guest, so we can go to a dinner party, because I'm wearing a dress...a white sequined strapless one. It's short, pretty short actually, but not trashy. It's fitted as well, wrapping itself around me in a flattering way. A waterfall of silver and cerulean sequins fall along the sides, like a shimmering stream, reflecting beams of dazzling light every time I turn my body. This is more of a cocktail dress...whatever occasion I dressed up for, it's fancy.

I look down at my wrist, at a slim black watch. The face reads “5:57”. I sigh and roll my eyes. Whoever I’m waiting for must be late. On the underside of the watch, I see "tobiii1004" carved in elegant pink script. I tug a little at my dress. Pick some of the sequins. Inspect my white nails.

Suddenly I feel a tap on my shoulder. I whip around and smile.

There's a boy standing there, around my age. Reddish hair. Slim, calm, collected eyes, that still show a delighted glint to see me. We greet each other and hug briefly. He's wearing a suit appropriate for a fancy occasion, similar to the way I'm dressed. On his left wrist he’s got a black watch just like mine. It seems like he'll be accompanying me to some sort of dinner party.

On the back, it's got "MattJTV" carved into it in yellow letters.

“Matt!!!” I scream.

"Tobi! Finally!" He responds, his lips spreading over white teeth.

After a moment of catching up, we laugh. "This is so weird, finally meeting you."

I agree, laughing.

"Where are the others?"

"I'm not sure, but looks like we'll be waiting a lot longer. They were supposed to be here a half hour ago...the flight's been delayed an hour."

He rolled his eyes. "Oh well. It's ok, we can wait. How long have you been here?"

"It doesn't matter," I laugh. "Only half an hour left to go, and they'll be here."

"I suppose you're right." He sighs.

"I'm so happy to see you! I've been waiting to meet all of you for so long."

"Same here, it's incredible seeing you here, not just on a screen, even though I wish you hadn't picked a formal dinner party." He laughed, pretending to fight his yellow silk tie.

I slap him in a playful way. "It's gonna be awesome." He laughs and flips his red hair, obviously relaxed and comfortable.

"Hell yeah it is."

Daydream Part Two.
So, at this point, Matt and I have been sitting for a little while. It was fun, we talked the whole time about how life had been treating us, and the little things that broke the silence and prevented awkwardness from creeping in, silent like a dark smoky cloud.

I'd begun to really like Matt. I already did, but we had became closer friends. After all, we were finally face-to-face, and we had endless topics of conversation to work with. I was never bored. At times it's quiet, but it wasn't awkward. We were just resting after talking for a long period of time, and it was nice to refresh ourselves.

At one point or another, I want to go to the restroom. I tell Matt I'll be right back and leave.

I stride to the bathroom, thumbing the lettering on my black watch, smiling the whole way.

I push open the bathroom door, revealing a row of orderly black stalls. I stop in front of a mirror and decide that I’m not meeting my own standard. After all, I have to make a good impression on these people...I'd been waiting much too long to meet them.

Rifling through my black purse, I find some makeup and tousle my hair, making faces at the mirror.

At the mirror next to me, a slender girl with dark brown hair fixes her makeup as well. Her dress is gorgeous…dark, blood red. It’s long and tight, like an old Hollywood red carpet dress, with little silver embellishments along the hems. A high slip goes up to her thigh, but she manages to make it look classy. Her nails are a blood red to match her dress, but the ring fingernail is painted black, with gold studs. Her hair is twisted up in an intricate rose, a delicate bun on the side of her head.

“I love your nails and your dress!” I exclaim.

She grins. “Thanks so much! I hate dressing up like this, but I’ve got some fancy thing to go to.” She rolls her eyes and laughs. My eyes widen.

“That’s so funny, I do too.”

Then I see it.

A black watch on her left wrist.

Who’s this girl…

I clear my throat. My voice gets shaky, I’m so excited, because I know who this girl is, but I just need to clarify. I need a shred of proof to know that this is HER. This is the girl who I’ve known for years, this is the girl I pulled all-nighters with, this is my best friend.

“Um, I don’t mean to push. And I know that this is totally none of my business.” I smile again, tossing my black curls over a shoulder.

“But, I think we might be going to the same place.” I gesture to my black watch.

Her eyes grow to the size of saucers, and she grabs my wrist to check my watch. She reads it at lightning pace, and looks up in a flurry of excitement and happy tears.

“Tobi?!”

I grab her watch, but I already know who this girl is.

“Kittens!” I scream through my happy, hot tears.

She laughs. “Call me Eva!” We burst out laughing, so happy to finally be united as best friends.

I turn her watch over again. It says exactly what I knew was there: “kittens1234”, scrawled in light purple letters.

“Wow…” I can hardly speak, I’m shaking so hard.

“This is insane.” She smiles so hard it looks like she’s going to break.

“I missed you so much.”

She laughed. “Missed me, but you never met me?” She grinned impishly.

I hit her lightly. “You know what I meant.”

Suddenly I remember a certain red-haired boy waiting outside the bathroom. I start bursting into laughter.

Eva’s so confused, she just stares.

“Matt’s outside! He’s been waiting for me!” I manage to push out the words through my laughter.

She laughs too, but soon realizes who I’m talking about.

“Matt…JTV?” Her mouth falls into a perfect little “o”.

“Of course!” I beam. “Let’s get y’all acquainted.”

She stares at me briefly, with the strangest look in her eyes.

“You say ‘y’all’ in real life?” She fights a smile.

“Well yeah, everything I typed was how I acted in real life.” I pretended to be mad at her. “Do you have something against ‘y’all’?”

She waved it off. “Let’s just go meet Matt.”

And so we did.

Daydream Part Three.
So at this point, Eva and I are running clumsily, trying desperately to meet up with Matt. I check my black watch to see how long I've been gone, and the poor kid has been waiting for about 20 minutes.

We're approaching the lobby where Matt's sitting, waiting. Gasping for air, we slow down, strolling to the rendezvous point. I can tell Eva's excited to meet Matt, and by the looks of it, I'm still excited to see him, and I've already met the guy at this point.

Our lively chatter slowed and stopped as we got nearer and nearer to the boy.

"Listen," I instruct with a giggling smile.

Eva looks at me, curious, but turns her ear forward anyway.

After a moment of silence passed, our ears tune themselves to the fine noise reaching out from a distance.

A change in my expression clarifies that I hear Matt's voice. It must be pretty recognizable.

But what's this?

I'm hearing something else.

Another guy, maybe. He's ... laughing. So is Matt. But the two of them are hysterically laughing, without end.

My heart races. It must be another one. But which one is it?

Realizing we're about to be seen, I yank Eva and myself behind a potted plant. She lets out a muffled yelp. I put a finger to her lips. We crouch there, like hiding schoolgirls, giggling.

As we peek our heads from behind the fronds of the plant, I see Matt, doubled over in hysterics. His long red hair shimmers as it moves, shaken by his violent laughter. I see a long, tan hand slap his back, like a good friend, and a glimpse of an extremely tall guy, with a happy light in his eyes, visible from afar.

My brain hasn't made the connection yet, but apparently Eva's has.

She leaps up, dress askew, dark hair flying in strands everywhere. The mysterious stranger looks over to her, startled and suprised.

"Chall!" She screams.

Then I almost fall over, I'm in so much shock.

I leap up the same way she does, and run. My heels make quick clopping sounds as I dash across the tiles to meet my friend. I'm inches away from him and I grab his wrist, complete with black watch. I flip it over.

Exactly as Eva said.

"Challenger410", written in bolded red letters. I look up. Smile.

"ROBBY!" I practically scream in his face, as I wrap my arms around him and tackle him in a huge hug. But as I look up into his face, arms still wrapped around his middle, he's confused. Very, very confused.

"Sorry," he laughs. His cheeks burn vibrant pink, embarassed. "But, who are you?"

I look at him, mouth agape. I've got the most incredulous look on my face. I cannot possibly believe that he doesn't know who I am. I look away a little, slightly irked as I shove my black watch at him, turned over, my pink name facing him.

"I'm just kidding," He says, a huge grin spreading across his face, from ear to ear. It's the most ridiculous smile, lopsided, but lovable. It's obvious now that he's kidding, although the punchline of the joke hasn't yet been revealed. I laugh, a sigh of relief washing over me. But he hasn't yet said my name, so I wonder if he doesn't know who I am after all. I offer him the watch again.

He pushes it away.

"What's up, Tobes."

And that's when I know everything's just fine.

Daydream Part Four.

Now we've been a happy bunch of four, me, Eva, Matt, and Robby, but we know there's dozens more people we're waiting up for.

Eva and I are laughing. Robby and Matt are cracking up. We’re pretty happy, and little by little, we begin to join together, until it’s four college students crying tears of laughter, huddled around each other. We’re quite a sight.

“So, is it just us now?” Robby inquires, rubbing a drop from his eye.

“Yeah, but we’re still waiting on a bunch of people.” I respond.

“Plus, we’ll meet a bunch of people at the dinner, too.” Matt adds. He unrolls a long list of names, and opens a flight schedule on his phone.

“Their plane was delayed again.” Eva groans.

“Looks like we’ll be stuck here for a while.” Robby sighs. He sits on a bench, and looks up at us. Even though he’s sitting and slouching, he’s still amazingly tall and is almost as tall as me. “Chris’s plane will be here soon, though.”

“Let’s go to his gate, he’ll be a little lost, first time in the U.S.” Matt suggests, trying to bring a lighter mood to the situation. We look at each other, to clarify.

“I mean, sure. We don’t have much else to do.” Eva laughs.

“Well, Matt’s the only one here who knows where he’s going, I think.” I gesture to the red haired boy next to me. “Lead the way, captain!”

We begin to walk, laughing and acting like idiots. Eva and Matt go ahead, while Robby and I follow, catching up the way Eva and I did, like old friends.

Which we were.

Robby says something about my height, and I slap him gently. He turns to completely face me, a look of mock hurt in his face. I laugh at the sight...he’s trying to follow Matt to the revolving doors, but still manages to look sideways at me, forcing him to grapevine across the marble floor. He’s obviously not paying much attention to where he’s going, but it doesn’t matter.

I turn away for two seconds, and suddenly Robby’s on the ground.

I pretended to not notice, speed walking ahead of him, but when I finally looked back, expecting him to be hot on my trail, he was still on the ground.

With two girls on top of him, tackling him to the airport floor.

I yelled for Eva and Matt, who are light years ahead of us at this point. Our trio runs across the tiles to help up Robby, pinned down by two mysterious girls.

I help up the two girls. They’re thin and light...probably high schoolers. Their cheeks are bright pink, and they’re giggling hysterically. Obviously, they knocked down Robby intentionally.

I look behind me, to see Robby brushing some dust off of his suit. Poor guy. I’d help him later.

“Girls, what was that?” I exclaim.

They just giggle and look away. Now I’m starting to get a little annoyed.

“You can’t just run around knocking people down. That was pretty insane, I don’t even know who you are, but I just don’t know why you did that.” I look at them, still in shock.

They just giggle again. My eyes narrow.

“Who are y’all, anyway.”

The minute I said “y’all”, one of them looks up at me, finally. She’s pretty, and looks a little older than the other. Cute, in a high-school way. Her eyes were confused for a minute. I saw the gears turning in her head. Her eyes scanned every crevice of my face, my hair, my white dress.

I suddenly see a small light go off in her eyes. Her face brightens and she grins ear-to-ear. Happy tears spring from the corners of her eyes, one of them quietly rolling down her cheek.

“Toaster!” She practically screams, tackling me to the floor, not unlike how she tackled Robby. The other one joins on top.

I fall to the ground in slow motion, the sound of the name I was just called pinging in my head. Echoing like a drum of a march once forgotten.

“Big sister, I’m so happy to see you!” The younger one squeals, happy tears dampening the corners of her eyes as well. Memories come back to me in floods, but I can’t quite put my finger on who these girls were. Obviously, she knew me, but I was struggling slightly to figure out their identities.

Robby comes over and grabs my arm to help me up. I gladly lean on his extended hand for support, and as I stand, I grab the wrist of the older one, to help her up as well.

My cheeks are tinted slightly red, from the fall and the adrenaline of being pushed. The younger one still clings to me.

With one hand around my neck and the other grabbing my shoulder, this younger girl is causing quite a scene. I take her other hand and bring it down, trying to peel myself off from this suffocating embrace.

And that’s when I see it, a black watch.

How could I have possibly been so stupid.

Suddenly everything becomes very clear. Big sister, Toaster, black watch, two sisters.

As I look at them carefully, I notice their dresses. The older one was wearing a silver dress, pale and shimmering like a glittering full moon on a warm summer night. She wears a necklace with the silver charm of a wolf silhouette, howling to the skies. The younger was wearing a blazing gold dress, with shining golden beads and a fiery sunset pattern. Her necklace was gold, with a prowling jungle cat.

Glancing down, I see the script on the older’s watch.

“SilverWolf101”, written in thin gray letters.

That’s all the confirmation I need.

“LITTLE SISTERS!” I yell. I scoop them in a huge hug, these little high school girls, and as their arms fly around me, I catch a glimpse of the younger’s watch, although I already know what it’ll say.

“GoldenLynx54”, in fine gray script, just like her sisters.

After our bone crushing hug, the younger introduces herself.

“You already know our names, but call me Madeline!" She beams.

“Well, Madeline, I’m so happy to see you. And what shall I call you, Silver?"

The older girl just smiles and laughs a little.

“I’m not that fond of my name. Keep it at Silver!” She giggles, smoothing her dress.

“Well, seeing as though we’re obviously headed to the same place, I’ll introduce you two.” I walk the girls over to where Robby, Eva, and Matt stood.

“Silv and Maddy, meet Robby, Eva, and Matt.” I beam, gesturing to their black watches. Eva screams and wraps her arms around the two high schoolers.

With the girls suffocating each other in a huge embrace, I walk over to Matt and Robby, laughing at the sight of the pile of girls. I brush some dust off of Robby’s shoulder, residue from his fall.

“I didn’t think they’d greet me quite like that,” He laughs, helping me clean him up.

We make small talk, laughing over little things, when suddenly Robby goes quiet. Noticing his silence, I look up at him. He’s distant, a shocked “o” forming on his lips. His gaze is intent on something else. Slowly but surely, I try to turn my face in the direction he’s looking at, but I’m quickly pushed by a very excited Robby.

Straightening up, I see Robby’s still running. Like a madman, dashing past anyone who gets in his way. There’s absolutely nothing that will stop that boy in his mad pursuit. Eva and I share a confused glance, and look around the tall boy.

Then I feel hot, happy tears explode out of my eyes.

We scream and run towards the new guest, just like Robby.

My Australian best friend has kept me waiting long enough.

Daydream Part Five.
I’m running. Still running. Chasing after who Robby is pursuing as well.

My white dress, covered by sequins, casts little round circles of light on the floor, peppering the tile with circular reflections. My heels slap against the floor, sharp clicks echoing. I could feel people’s eyes on me, trailing after this made-up college girl dashing across an airport room.

Although everything is passing quickly around me, I’ve got tunnel vision. All I see is this boy, this dark-haired, tall boy who’s locked eyes with Robby. I stop for a moment to watch the scene.

Robby has no intentions of slowing down. This new boy hitches his bags over his shoulder, and begins to slowly step forward, towards Robby. His steps quicken. His feet lighten, and soon, he’s at a full run, just like Robby. He drops a black bag but doesn’t stop to retrieve it. The boys are charging at each other, at full force. I stop to wonder how this powerful greeting is going to end.

That doesn’t matter though.

Robby spreads his long arms. The boy starts laughing. They’re yards away from each other. Feet. Inches.

And then they crash into each other, and instead of falling to the floor, they stand in the middle of the floor, locking each other in a huge embrace. This new boy’s glasses are askew. Robby’s watch is almost falling off, from the twist his wrist underwent during the hug.

They’re laughing and smiling with no end. Babbling about whatever they could think of. Robby and the boy are happy as can be. They address each other by their names, a level of recognition and comfort that’s been rare so far.

I smile a little.

I know exactly who this boy is, I’ve seen his picture enough to identify him.

I smile a lot.

No black wristwatch would ever need to help me recognize this boy.

I study him and Robby for a while. He’s wearing a dark gray suit, with a crisp white shirt underneath. He’s fiddling with the buttons now, fixing his glasses, and dusting off his shoulders from the intensity of the embrace.

Then he looks up, looks at me.

Looks at my dress. Looks at my watch.

Looks at my face, for the longest time.

And then there’s this moment of pure clarity for him. Suddenly I’m speechless. I find my tongue in the back of my throat, struggling to find words under the suffocation of my own emotion. It appears to be the same on his side.

He comes up to me, Robby trailing him closely behind. Robby’s got an idiotic grin on his face, watching us interact.

Or, at least try to interact.

“I...uh...” I stammer.

“Well...” He starts.

We stand there for a few shocked seconds. He gingerly takes my wrist and reads the underside of my watch. He offers his and I read.

“Metazard”.

He tentatively pushes a dark lock of hair out of his eyes.

Then suddenly I can’t take it.

I tackle him, with just enough force to push him back, but not send him tumbling. My arms are wrapped around his top. My fingertips interlock, and I’m screaming.

We laugh. We smile. We yell. We whoop. We hoot. We holler. And before you know it, we’re spinning around in a circle, just making unintelligible sounds. We calm down.

I sigh.

He looks at me, smiles.

“I’ve been wondering when this moment would happen for a while.” I laugh, happy tears falling out of my eyes. I hug him again.

By the looks of it, it’s hardly unexpected that I’d react like this. Robby just kinda looks over and keeps walking. He disappears around the corner.

I look up at him. His long hair is still in his eyes. He pushes it away again.

“Hello Chris.” I smile up at him.

“Hello Tobi.” He laughs back.

“I missed my best friend terribly.”

“I missed you too, although I’ve never met you.”

I laugh and smile again. I dab a little at the outer corners of my eyes. He smiles, one corner pulling up in a cocky lilt.

“Crying for me, eh?”

I laugh, and lightly punch him.

“Shut up.” I continue preventing further ruination of my makeup.

We talk more. We review our old jokes. Old conversations. Old times. Everything seems so dim now, so basic, now that I have my best guy friend in front of me.

Then I see a bewildered other boy, poking around the corner. He’s carrying seven bags, and they all look heavy. Robby follows him.

Poor kid.

Chris looks over his shoulder and sees the boy.

“Oh, hey, Jack! Meet Tobi!”

My face lights up again. I run to meet this Jack boy, who I know for a fact will have a black watch, with “Jamorous” written on the underside. We hug briefly, and make small talk on the walk back to Chris.

Like a true gentleman, Jack offers his arm to me. I take it.

“So nice to meet you.” I grin at him.

“And you as well, m’lady.” He grins back.

I laugh. What a gentleman. Something about these Australian boys just is so courteous.

Coming back to Chris, Chris sees me on Jack’s arm. He raises an eyebrow, and I laugh. I let go of Jack, and look at Chris. He looks at me. I look at his elbow. He looks at his elbow.

“Did you expect me to-” He starts, holding in a laugh.

“Yes.” I cut him off.

He laughs and holds out his arm. I take it like I took Jack’s.

I feel a tap on my shoulder. There’s Jack again. I smile. He holds out his elbow. I take it.

I guess you could say I’m a lucky girl now, I’ve got two Australian gentlemen on either side of me. I giggle a little.

Robby comes up behind our trio and taps Chris on the shoulder. The two boys grin devilishly at each other, then they look at Jack. Jack nods and steps back.

It’s some sort of unspoken signal.

Immediately, spontaneously, Jack’s arm is no longer on me. Suddenly Robby replaces Jack and my hands are around his elbow. The two boys count to three and suddenly I’m in the air, being lifted by my two best guy friends.

I scream a little.

Laugh.

Scream some more. My efforts of being let down are futile.

“Put me down!” I scream, laughter punctuating my screams.

Chris and Robby look at each other, then nod.

They drop me.

It’s a brief second of pure torture. A breathtaking freefall that scares me out of my wits. I scream more this time. Not loud enough to cause a scene.

Then, I’m caught again. The boys’ arms are around me and I gently fall to the floor, landing on my feet, gasping for breath.

I grant each one of them a light slap on the head.

We laugh some more, and they joke around with me. I return the favor by hitting them.

And in the midst of our laughter, I realize how happy I am. And that’s when I know how much I was missing out on.

Daydream Part Six.
After Robby, Chris, Jack, and I return to the group with the others, Silver and Madeline greet Chris and Jack the same way they greeted Robby.

Chris is dying, suffocating under the choking embraces piled unto him, one after the other.

Matt sees Chris and Jack, and smiles. We’ve all been good friends for a while, but as we run around meeting each other face to face, the friendships solidify and strengthen. Matt flashes a pearly white smile at Chris and Jack, showing a row of elegant white teeth.

“Hey! It’s Matt!” Chris says, a goofy grin spreading across his lips.

They bring it in for a quick hug, and Matt and Jack shake hands. We’re catching up. Chatting, walking. Talking.

“So, first time in the U.S., right?” Eva looks at the two new boys.

“Yep, that’s us. Proud Aussies.” Jack punches Chris and Chris pushes Jack. It’s a pleasant little friendships they have, more like two brothers fooling around than two friends.

“Well, I know this area fairly well. I can show you guys around before we meet the others at their gate.” Matt says, proud of his indigenous status.

“Sounds like a plan.” Chris gives a thumbs-up. Jack nods in approval.

We start heading for the door, Matt serving as a line leader.

“So, there’s a really good ice cream shop around here, we could pick up a few cones before the dinner party...” Matt begins to map out the streets, informing us of the main attractions and little shops.

Then he’s rudely interrupted by a high pitched, repetitive beeping noise.

Our hands fly up to our ears. It’s Matt’s black watch, like all of us have. Looks like he’d programmed his to sound an alarm.

“Man, that beep is annoying! Who got these watches for us?” Robby shouts over the beeping, while Matt fumbled with his to try silencing it.

“Oh, don’t worry, it’s just an alarm.” Matt mumbles.

“A what?!” Robby shouts.

“AN ALARM. IT’S FOR THE OTHERS...THEIR PLANE SHOULD BE HERE IN FIVE MORE MINUTES.” Matt shouts, finally managing to shut off the watch.

“Five minutes?!” Eva says, eyes bigger than saucers.

“Ah, it’s fine. It’ll take them time to get off the plane, too.” Jack points out.

“But ditch the ice cream. This airport tends to get a little crowded when the planes get here. Let’s start our way to the gate.” Matt claims. He turns around on his left heel, flipping his red hair one more time, and leads us to the gate.

I fall in step with Eva, and as we approach the escalator, Madeline screeches at the sight of a plane, pulling into the gate we’re headed to.

And we all break into a run.

Daydream Part Seven.
This is it.

We’re all running like crazy people, making a mad dash for the airport gate.

“MATT! WHERE ARE WE GOING?!” Eva screams from the caboose of the line to Matt, leading us up front.

“GATE 3B!” He shouts back, pointing his index finger at the ceiling, insinuating that we had to travel up a few floors.

“Catch this escalator!” Matt jumps, and leaps onto an escalator, running up the dynamic stairs.

We watch at the foot of the stairs as the redheaded boy clambers over steps and bags, stumbling to get up top, clutching handrails and tripping over the platforms, before taking a step back and realizing that the escalator was going down.

He regains his composure and steps back down. A moment of awkward silence passes, as Robby, Chris, and I quietly turn our backs to relieve our shaking laughter. Eva helps Matt dust off his suit, and Jack turns his face away, biting his lip.

“Alright, well.” Matt’s face matches his hair.

“Upwards we go!” He marches onto the correct escalator, and continues leading our ascent to our friends.

“Save your energy, we’re still gonna have to run to the other terminals too.” Eva reminds us, panting.

We arrive at Gate 3B, which contains nothing more than a near-empty waiting room and an expectant, shut, door.

The plane is already here, we’re waiting for it to cough up its passengers.

We wait.

And wait.

And wait.

Chris taps his foot.

Eva plays with a frayed string on her dress.

I cough quietly.

Then the door opens.

And at first it’s quiet. Robby takes a tentative step forward, trying to peer into the deserted hallway connecting the airport and the plane. Chris stretches his neck out. Jack approaches the hall.

And then we see a middle-aged man, with graying hair, come around the corner.

He wheels a small black suitcase. Following him is a young woman, in a gray sweater, carrying a pink backpack.

A swarm of other passengers come around the bend. Our hopes dim. How many of our friends are even ON this plane?

We’re beginning to lose hope. You can see it in our dimming eyes. Our confidence in the grand arrival of our upcoming friends is dwindling, like a wick of a candle, contorting and curling under the grip of a yellow flame.

And just as another middle-aged man comes down the hallway, we hear a rumbling noise. It’s soft at first. Subtle yet evident, like the slow, clumsy melody of baby horses learning to take their first running steps.

Then we see it.

The poor middle-aged man didn’t know how to react towards the stampede of excited college kids running down the hall, their footsteps echoing and rumbling the entire hallway. The man yanked his suitcase up to his hip and pressed his body against the wall, attempting to dodge the horde of sprinting kids.

And then our faces light up like stars.

We cheer, and the group cheers in response.

But I already knew that girl. That was Rachel, who was wearing a black wristwatch with “rachel4526” scrawled across the back. She’s been one of my best friends from childhood, in reality.

The people behind her, though.

A dark haired girl in a black dress. A paler girl with a purple dress. A boy with dark, swooping hair. A girl with blonde hair and fair skin. And an entire crowd following them, all in formalwear and with black watches. A girl with big purple and blue hair and a dark dress. I see too many people to record with detail.

“Rachel!” I run up to her, complimenting her dress and hugging her tightly.

We let go of our embrace. The girl with dark hair taps my shoulder, and I grab her watch.

“hailstorm2424”.

“Haley!” I scream, hugging her as well. There is way too much chaos for me to address everyone individually. Then the purple dress girl comes over.

“Remember me?” I cock my head at her, inspecting her face for clues.

“Here’s a hint: Boo.” She smiles devilishly, fanning her fingers out at me as she pronounced the last syllable.

My mouth falls open and I scream a little. I hug her, my little Bridget. My other little sister, if you will.

The next few moments are crazy. I read about six dozen watches, and hug six dozen people.

“leigh_macpherson”, “DragonKilla76”, “Neko6554”, “Mcmanaway1”, “Qu3sti0nMark”, “deathworlds”, “CCoesBruins”, "MonsterGeek99" standing next to "kris_nickel", and a ton of others. There are way too many people here to address them all by watches. I learn some names and forget some usernames. It's the result of our friendship, grown throughout the years, leading up to this dinner party, this moment.

There’s three guys in the corner, all with watches as well. “inspironwins”, “dungeongoth”, and “serialfun”. They all stick to themselves, but are friendly enough and I talk to them as well. Inspironwins’s name is Alex, and Serialfun’s is Louis. Dungeongoth’s isn’t revealed. People go up to them but still leave them their space, out of healthy respect.The four of us talk briefly to introduce ourselves, and I quickly depart to speak with the others. I was never extremely close to all of them.

It’s an insane process. Leigh’s over in the corner goofing off with DragonKilla, whose name ended up being Josh. Neko and Eva are talking. Mcmanaway, whose name is Drew, is talking with Robby. They’re pretty close friends, always have been. Qu3sti0nMark, whose name is Jake, talks to Haley in another corner.

There’s way too many people in this room to count. The desk worker looks up at our roaring crew, her mouth agape. Her eyes trail along every crevice of our tight bunch, trying to absorb the furor sweeping the airport gate. The middle aged man from before tries to inch his way into a grand escape from our crowd.

One particular girl I notice is the one with blue hair.

“Emmylol1”.

By the looks of it, no one expects her to be there, but she IS. I hug her. She’s one of my closest friends here and I’d been waiting a while to meet her. She’s a little shy, but incredibly sweet and funny. She walks over to be with Alex and Louis.

I feel a tap on my shoulder, and suddenly I’m swept off my feet, yet again.
