It was the next morning, and it was rainy. I pouted. I hated rain. I slipped out of bed, no longer enjoying its comfort, and started my day. I showered, brushed my teeth, dressed, and went downstairs.
It was early. Too early for anyone to be up. Bunnies always wake up early. The next ones up would be Ahri, Colli, and maybe that James guy, since they were all foxes, you know?
Nose wiggling, I began munching on some broccoli. Ew, it was squishy. Why was it squishy? In the semi-darkness, I looked down at it to realize it was a brussel sprout. NO.
Spitting it out, I rummaged for more food, rifling through the bottom drawer of the fridge while still standing up, leaving me in an uncomfortable position with my legs straight and my face pressed against the glass of the other drawer. Naturally when I heard someone's voice, I jumped. But unfortunately, my odd position caused me to slam my head on the shelf above me when I jumped. How pathetic.
Turning around, I saw it was that James guy. I scowled and slapped him.
"You tried to eat me."
"And you hold a grudge." He responded simply. Sass to ME? Mm, not going to happen.
I slapped him again, to put him in his place. I guess he was sort of cute in human form. Not going to be let off the hook, since he wasn't my type. But still cute overall.
Glaring to hide this realization, I said, "so what are you, some kind of shapeshifter or something?"
"Yeah, sort of."
"I'm not." I smiled happily, to throw him off.
Confusion crossed his face. "What?"
"Other shape shifters have infinite forms. I only have four."
"And what are they, if you don't mind me asking?"
"I do mind you asking." I said, as-a-matter-of-factly. This was probably funny to watch. He was trying to be all polite but I was shooting him down every time. I wondered if he had the ability to turn into any animal. Ahri and Colli would develop a crush on him because he could turn into a fox. Avi was too young, but she'd find him "nice" because he could turn into a bird. Me...well, I knew he'd never become more than my friend. I doubted he could turn into a cute bunny. Probably one of those jackrabbits, all skinny and long-legged. Ew!
And in case you were wondering, my type of bunny shapeshifting guy is white cottontail. Cute like me.
And he left. Because I was too mean. I cheered a silent cheer of victory.
The others began to wake up. Ahri first. I beamed at her.
"Hi Ahri!"
She smiled back. "Hi, Alice!" She bopped my nose, just to see me scowl cutely. I obliged from pure reflex. The scowl disappeared, and I pouted.
"It's raining." I cried. I stuck out my lower lip further.
Ahri stroked my bunny ears. "Shh...it'll all get better." What I didn't notice was Robby following her. And with a quick snap of his fingers, the rain stopped and birds sang. I clapped in delight.
"Do it again! Do it again!" He made rain appear, then disappear. I smiled happily.
"Thank you!" I said, before leaping into a big hug. There was nothing romantic between us, but I liked hugging him and acting all cute with him just to get Ahri on my case a little. It was fun to annoy her, like I was the littlest sister. Even though Avi was.
Colli and Chris came down next. They were pretty quiet, I didn't know what was up with that.
Next came Avi who was chipper and sunny. A little more than usual. I didn't know what that situation was either, but I didn't give it too much thought. She probably slept well, or ate something good before bed. She'll tell us if she wants.
And she did tell us. But it wasn't anything I had guessed.
Not even close.
