Ahri, finally calm now, decided that everyone had to go to bed. Carrying Alice, well, DRAGGING Alice, I put her on the floor next to her bed. "Close enough." I mutter. Quietly opening and closing the door, I sneak off to the kitchen for a snack. Ahri manages to find me. "What are you doing, Colli? It's bedtime!" Trying to disappear, I whimper and muster the best cute eyes I can. Hoping I look innocent, I say angelically, "I wanted a snack to take into bed with me." Maybe I should've said water. "We don't have spare food Colli. You KNOW that." Feeling ashamed, I try to think of another excuse. "Oh, I uh wanted to show you something!" I say quickly. Raising an eyebrow, she says "Oh?" Remembering each step of the process, I complete the Guiding Light spell. Twirling it on my finger, I feel happy now. Ahri looks surprised and proud! "I learned it from my book!" Talking so confidently, I try to inch towards the stairs. Seeing me moving away, she hustles me to my room/Purity's. It is completely dark, and the blotch of mud in the broken window looks horrible. I crouch on my un-needed bunk bed. At the top bunk, I shiver under the thin, wool covers as though they are sheets of ice. Throwing the blanket on the ground, I spy my bookcase filled to the brim with colorful stories. Thinking about that made me hungry for a good book. Sliding down the ladder, I reach for a book-and then pull away my hand. Suddenly I don't feel like reading. I feel like watching the glowing white fireflies outside, and trying to find a constellation. Stepping towards the mud-filled window, I push out the oozy brown stain. Plop! It falls onto the ground in the cool night. Gazing out as close as I dare to the dangerous glass shards, I pick out a few bright stars directly on the horizon. Tracing them together, they form a paw shape. "The Paw Stars...: I murmur. I feel elated that I discovered a constellation, and jot down where it is on a stray paper. 'Paw Stars: East horizon on-' I think. Looking at how bright it is, I guess it's a full moon. 'Paw Stars: East horizon on the full moon.' Drawing out how they look in the sky, I include a slight glow to them. Putting the notes wedged between a ladder rung, I plop onto the bed, now grateful for the icy sheets. At least they are something. Soon I drift into sleep, only to be awakened by a howling gale. Covering my head, I fall asleep again, awakening into a seemingly perfect world. I wake up in the house, smelling pork cooking. Mmm! Rushing downstairs, though, I don't see Ahri or Avi or Emma, not even Alice or Purity. They are fox people. Just like me. some sit at a table, others play in a once empty pool. Some have amber ears and tails, some have bright scarlet fur. Gasping, I see an older vixen that looks just like me. "M-mom?" Gazing right back, it is her. My mother.
