Glow
An eerie shiver whirled though the air, graceful, yet sharp and harsh in its bite. Tiny snowflakes fluttering from the sky twirled haplessly in its carry, slammed into one another and flying into trees. A dog barked in the background, a cat mewled, nesting in a tree branch, tail lazily waving, hung over the branch like a flag.
I closed my eyes. I slipped my gloved hand out of my pocket, and one by one, I plucked the black glove from my fingers. The elastic band rested on the middle of my hand now. I took a deep breath and removed it all the way, leaving nothing but a bare hand.
Time to be quick, time to move fast. I stripped myself of my other glove and my shoes.
I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t look down to see what was going to happen. A small peer would do. A short one. So I glanced down, fearfully, anxiously, at my hands, palm-up. Slowly, painfully, I turned my hands over.
A flaming red shape of a flame was on my left hand. It was NOT a tattoo.
A reflective blue teardrop shape was on my right hand. It was NOT a tattoo.
A glowing green and brown smudge was on my left foot. It was NOT a tattoo.
A set of three cold white lines were on my right foot. They were NOT a tattoo.
None of these symbols were tattoos.
It was a cold Autumn afternoon, brisk and cutting.
I must be crazy to be doing this now.
But why would I be crazy if I have nothing to lose?
Gently placing the balls of my feet on the earth, I leapt up and took off. Flying.
I observed the ground passing below me, the freeing wind entangling in my hair, mingling with the warmth I cast off. Looking at my right foot quickly, the three lines glowed a vibrant, reflective, bright white shine.
The cold bit through my blue skin. I looked at the black stripes on my arm. Black tigerlike stripes layered over my skin everywhere, looking like a tattoo, but they were natural. With glowing purple eyes, I was a fearsome creature, but quite harmless.
I felt a breeze pass through my skin. It hit me right in the heart, sending icy chills in my bloodstream. I felt a change come. My vision tinted ice blue, and out of my peripheral vision, I saw a tiny vein of white spread across my leg. I felt the cold bite me, and it hurt badly. I was used to it, however.
The vein of white soon engulfed my entire body, making my skin a pure white shade. My eyes burned, and I knew they were changing to a vibrant blue shade. My hair, from the follicles to the tips, turned blue, jagged in its angular style. My heart sank to my chest, suddenly loaded with cold weight. I knew immediately it was transforming from flesh to solid ice. Bitter cold washed over me. I didn’t care, I needed relief from my human form confinement. I felt pale blue wings sprout from my back, and I grit my teeth from the pain.
I needed warmth. My skin was beginning to become transparent, showing my icy insides. There was nothing to see, when I took this form, I became ice.
I flew down, frozen tear droplets blurring my vision. I descended, and landed on a patch of grass in the middle of a forest. My insides melted, leaving a pounding flesh heart. All that was going to change. I looked at my left foot. The brown and green smudge glowed a healthy, earthy color. My white skin and blue eyes disappeared, leaving vibrant green eyes and tanned, deep chocolate brown skin. My hair fell down in green locks, growing long, to my feet. I breathed in the air. I liked this form best. I could sit and relax, become part of the serene nature. But my mouth grew dry like it always does in this form, and I was rushing to run to the nearest river. In the earth form I could not fly.
I leapt in, and immediately my brown and green skin melted off. I looked down and saw it had become blue. Aquamarine hair fell in curly, gentle locks down my back. I felt my insides melt away, leaving nothing but liquid. It seems like it would be uncomfortable, but it is the most free feeling, being filled with nothing but fluidity. The blue teardrop on my right hand glowed brightly. I needed to leave this form. So I swam to the top and rolled down. I looked for a fire but saw none. So I struck a match from the matchbox I always keep, and watched the tiny fire glow. My wet hands sent water creeping up the stick, so I had to hurry. Turned the match on its side, and plunged it into my heart. Fire screamed in my insides, engulfing me.
The change was quick, only a matter of seconds. My skin burned red, and my eyes were a maroon shade. Canary yellow hair fell in wildly curly locks, perfect corkscrew curls surrounding my head. My left hand had a glowing red fire on it, the symbol shining. My lips turned up, feeling their red color. Fire appeared where I walked, so I had to be careful. I stuck the bottom of my feet in the pool, to calm them. I needed to go somewhere free. A desert would do but there weren’t many of those around me, so I used a large pond to practice.
I spun my wrists quickly, and my feet too. They cast out glowing flames, which were extinguished in the lake. Spinning faster and faster, tiny flames cascaded from me and fell from my hair, hissing sounds exploding from the lake as they were set out. Soon the wind picked up and I felt my skin turn white again.
In my wind form, with my three lines on my foot shining, I flew to my original destination.
Sure, I was crazy to be doing this.
But why would I be crazy if I have nothing to lose?
Omg another amazing story!
