If you want to make an off-topic topic, then make it something that is a strong conversation holder. Like, if you make a post about eating salad with chopsticks, I get annoyed that I wasted my few left clicks to read crap. I am not saying the dress post is as bad as my scenario, but that topic seems like something you could put in your skype IMs with kittens.
